The Chinese government bans the use of Intel and AMD chips in government PCs and promotes local operating systems to ensure “safety and reliability.” The Ministry of Industry and Information Technology released a list of “safe and reliable” standards but did not specify the suppliers.

The ban could cause financial harm to Intel, which generates 27% of its annual sales from China. The move is seen as stimulating local chip innovation.

The Chinese government has also expanded its ban on foreign technology equipment, prohibiting employees from using iPhones and other foreign-branded technology equipment, and recommending the use of local brands. These measures aim to reduce dependence on foreign technology and strengthen local technological development.
