Meta Platforms on Wednesday unveiled details of its next-generation in-house artificial intelligence accelerator chip. The chip is called “Artemis” and is designed to solve the computing needs of artificial intelligence products in Facebook, Instagram and WhatsApp.
This will reduce reliance on Nvidia and lower energy costs. Meta plans to produce chips under TSMC’s “5nm” process, which will have three times the performance of first-generation processors. The company will continue to expand the scope of MTIA to include support for generating artificial intelligence workloads.
