Microsoft and Brookfield Asset Management announced a green energy partnership yesterday in what could be one of the largest corporate green energy purchases to date.

Brookfield plans to develop more than 10.5 gigawatts of new wind and solar power plants for Microsoft to meet its goal of achieving 100% zero-carbon electricity by 2030. The collaboration highlights major investments by major global companies in clean energy to meet climate goals while remaining competitive in the race for artificial intelligence.

The deal is nearly eight times the size of the largest corporate renewable energy purchase agreement in history and showcases Brookfield’s energy prowess and Microsoft’s purchasing power.
