Chinese e-commerce company Meituan has negotiated with Delivery Hero to acquire Foodpanda’s Southeast Asian business, with a view to diversifying beyond the domestic market.

It’s unclear whether the talks mean a deal will be struck, and it’s possible other bidders could emerge.

Representatives for Meituan did not respond to requests for comment, and a spokesman for Delivery Hero declined to comment.

Delivery Hero said in September that it was in talks to sell part of its business in Southeast Asia, where growth has stagnated since the easing of COVID-19 lockdowns. The company is in talks to divest the Foodpanda brand in Singapore, Malaysia, the Philippines, Thailand, Cambodia, Myanmar and other countries.
