Tesla imposes congestion charges at Superchargers

Tesla is implementing Supercharger congestion pricing in response to a surge in demand for electric vehicle charging stations.

The new fee replaces the previous inactivity fee, which increased from $0.50 to $1 per minute, and only applies to Tesla Supercharger stations in the United States.

This fee is mainly targeted at stations with heavy traffic, with particular focus on locations with high charging station traffic. The move could penalize owners for overcharging, especially if the battery charge exceeds 90%. Owners will receive notifications via the Tesla app giving them advance notice of upcoming congestion charges.

The move is part of Tesla’s strategy to expand Supercharger stations to better cope with growing demand for electric vehicle charging infrastructure.
