India pays Rs 79 crore incentives for white goods

The government is expected to disburse financial incentives of Rs 79 crore for white goods under PLI (Production Linked Incentive) in the last quarter of the current fiscal as some selected beneficiary companies have already started production, a senior official said.

The Production Linked Incentive (PLI) scheme for white goods aims to encourage domestic manufacturing of air conditioners and LED lighting components. The official also said that the target of Rs 11,000 crore in incentive disbursement for different sectors under the scheme this fiscal may not be achieved.

Among the 64 beneficiary companies selected under the PLI program in the field of white goods, 15 have started production. These 15 beneficiaries chose the gestation period ending on March 31, 2022. The remaining beneficiaries who opted for the gestation period ending on March 31, 2023 are in various stages of implementation. The scheme will be implemented over a seven-year period from 2021-22 to 2028-29 with an outlay of Rs 6,238 crore.
