The Malaysian Ministry of Communications plans to provide internet facilities that can be easily accessed anywhere, especially for areas without internet access, through satellite-to-device mobile services.

Minister of Communications and Digital Fahmi Fazil said that since 2.7% of the area still requires basic 4G network services, the department is studying issues related to satellite technology and expects to achieve it by 2025.

He pointed out that satellite technology could make internet available to remote areas no matter where they are. It is also expected that when Malaysia’s 5G coverage reaches 80%, a second network entity other than Digital Nasional Bhd (DNB) to provide 5G services will be announced to promote competition among telecommunications companies.
