South Korean automaker Kia has unveiled the EV9, an all-electric SUV that is notable for its bidirectional charging capability, which feeds energy back into the community grid.

Kia has partnered with Wallbox, an EV charging solutions company, to supply energy to communities through the EV9. The car supports V2L energy exchange to provide electricity for the home, such as charging electronics. In addition, the EV9 can store 76 to 100 kWh of energy, which is more than five times that of a standard home energy storage system and enough to power the average home for up to four days.

This innovative technology allows the EV9 to be used as an emergency generator in the event of a power outage, switching power from the grid to the vehicle, helping homeowners solve power problems.

The EV9 is part of Kia’s push for sustainability goals, with a commitment to launch 11 electric models by 2026 and a commitment to using 100% renewable energy at its manufacturing facilities by 2040.
