Uber and Korean automaker Kia announced the signing of an electric vehicle production agreement during the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas to jointly develop and deploy a new series of electric vehicles to enhance electric vehicle products on Uber’s mobile platform.

Kia has launched a new car based on a “Platform Beyond Vehicle” (PBV) that can transform into multiple vehicle types, including vans and robotaxis, with interchangeable components. The cooperation between the two parties can reduce the total cost of vehicle ownership, and Uber said that drivers on its platform will adopt electric vehicles six to seven times faster than the general public.

Kia plans to produce 150,000 PBVs by 2025, increasing to 300,000 units per year by 2030.
