In 2023, the number of workers over 60 years old in South Korea’s manufacturing industry exceeded the age group of 15 to 20 years old for the first time, reaching 599,000, highlighting the problems of low fertility rate and aging population. This poses a threat to the supply of manpower in the entire labor market.

Experts believe that due to the reduction of young labor force, the manufacturing industry may improve the treatment of young people. At the same time, this data reflects the trend of older workers becoming an important source of labor market.
