Amazon was hit hard by the tablet market last quarter, with sales falling 49.5%. Apple and Samsung, which hold the majority of the global market share, were also hit, falling 14.2% across the board, negatively impacting many other manufacturers. In the Chromebook market, HP sales fell 16%, Dell fell 28.1%, and market leader Acer fell 6.3%.

For tablets, Samsung’s market share fell by 17.1%, Apple by 15.1%, Lenovo by 4.2%, and Amazon by 49.5%. Apple’s market share is 37.5%, Samsung’s 18.0%, Amazon’s 6.5%, and Lenovo’s 7.9%.

Preliminary data from IDC shows global quarterly personal computing device shipments of 33.2 million units, with the market growing 18% from the previous quarter despite limited demand due to seasonality.

Experts say updates in the education sector and budget surpluses in government spending may help maintain long-term stability in the tablet market, but there won’t be significant growth in the near term.

The tablet market in general faces challenges as it sits between PCs and smartphones, requiring a more consistent software and service experience to adapt to an ever-changing market.
