Every year on November 11, Malaysia welcomes a grand online shopping spree, namely the “Singles’ Day” or “Double 11” shopping spree.

Alibaba has transformed Singles’ Day, a celebration of singles, into the world’s largest shopping festival. Last year, China’s Double 11 sales reached US$158 billion, more than four times the US Cyber Week sales.

Shopping platforms such as Shopee and Lazada in Malaysia regard 11.11 as the “biggest sale of the year” and provide a large number of discounts. Consumers spend thousands of ringgit on various goods on Chinese platforms such as Taobao. The Malaysian Small and Medium Enterprises Association calls on the government to support local companies in promoting products during Double 11.

At the same time, some consumers have expressed concerns about the Double 11 craze, pointing out that complaints related to it have increased year by year.
