Malaysia’s Deputy Prime Minister Fadillah said that developing the green furniture industry could make it “the next trillion-dollar industry”.
He believes that green furniture made from natural materials can help reduce environmental pollution, and suggests that green furniture should be developed from the perspective of the overall ecosystem to reduce the carbon footprint. He emphasized that the green furniture certification program can improve the credibility and competitiveness of companies and help them promote green products in the domestic and international markets.
The Deputy Prime Minister noted that the export of wooden furniture is an important contributor to Malaysia’s timber industry, with a total export value of RM25.2 billion last year, of which RM11.1 billion came from wooden furniture.
