Basic Energy Corp. plans to build 5MW solar facilities in the Philippines to power 6,500 electric buses to promote electric vehicle (EV) deployment nationwide.

The company seeks to work with utility companies to set up solar power plants and electric charging stations in every province to address the growing number of electric vehicles and insufficient charging infrastructure. BEC has proposed an e-transport plan to the government, seeking at least 82 franchises to launch two categories of electric buses within five years. The company also proposes to deploy 10 to 80 electric buses in each province and establish electric hubs to provide charging facilities.

The Electric Vehicle Association of the Philippines (Evap) stated that there are currently more than 16,000 electric vehicles in the Philippines, and electric vehicle sales increased by 2,356 units in the first quarter of 2023 alone, almost six times the same period last year.
