Walmart is ramping up imports from India to the U.S. and reducing its dependence on China to cut costs and diversify its supply chain.

According to Import Yeti, a quarter of Walmart’s U.S. imports came from India from January to August this year, up significantly from 2 in 2018%有显著增长。与此同时其从中国进口的商品占比下降至60%% in 2018.

The change suggests that rising import costs in China and escalating political tensions between China and the United States are pushing U.S. companies to look for alternative supply chains from countries like India.

Walmart’s executive vice president of chief procurement said India has become a key component in building manufacturing capacity.
