South Korean chipmaker SK hynix plans to build a new packaging factory in Indiana, USA, to produce high-bandwidth memory (HBM) chips for integration with Nvidia’s graphics processing units (GPUs).

The company said it is considering a possible investment in the United States, but has not yet made a final decision. The new facility will stack standard DRAM chips and integrate them with Nvidia’s GPUs.

Currently, SK hynix manufactures HBM chips in South Korea, which are then shipped to Taiwan for integration by TSMC and finally paired with Nvidia’s GPUs.
