eBay plans to cut 1,000 jobs, or 9% of its workforce, to restructure its organization and improve the global customer experience.

In the announcement, the company’s president, Jamie Yan, pointed out that despite the progress of the strategy, the number of employees and expenses have outpaced the growth rate of the business, so organizational changes are needed. The layoffs are planned to optimize the end-to-end experience and better meet customer needs. In addition to the layoffs, eBay also plans to reduce the number of contract employees in the coming months.

The layoffs follow the announcement in February last year that 500 people (4% of the workforce) would be laid off globally.
