New York City has announced it will trial an artificial intelligence-based gun detection system in the subway in response to the recent shooting at a Brooklyn subway station.

The mayor of New York said he would work with Evolv to install the technology on turnstiles. However, Evolv faces accuracy reviews and investigations. The city will begin the pilot program within 90 days and comply with surveillance technology disclosure requirements. While Evolv operates in other venues, there is skepticism about its accuracy.

The move is part of the New York mayor’s response to school and hospital shootings, but comes amid concerns over the technology’s accuracy and false positives.
