Huawei’s latest smartphones feature advanced Chinese-made processors released last year, underscoring its ability to maintain production of the controversial chips. TechInsights discovered that the Huawei Pura 70 series is equipped with the Kirin 9010 processor, an updated version of the Kirin 9000 produced by SMIC for the Mate 60 Pro.

U.S. officials are wary of Huawei’s ability to produce 7-nanometer chips and are considering broader sanctions to limit its semiconductor ambitions.

Huawei, which hopes to respond to Trump-era sanctions by rebuilding its consumer business, has equaled Apple in China market share, showing its progress in chipping away at the iPhone maker’s domestic market share.
