Counterpoint Research pointed out that global XR headset shipments fell 19% year-on-year last year due to a lack of new devices and attractive use cases.

Meta still dominates the market, but its share fell from 77% to 59%. Quest headset shipments fell 38%, likely affected by the high price of Quest 3 and competition.

According to IDC forecasts, headphone market shipments are expected to grow 44.2% to 9.7 million units, driven by new products such as Apple Vision Pro.

Qualcomm’s new spatial computing platform is expected to help OEMs design more headsets, while engaging content will drive wider adoption of XR technology. Apple Vision Pro may promote the development of content and use cases and promote the development of AR technology.

IDC predicts that by 2028, mixed reality headset shipments may reach 24.7 million units, with an annual growth rate of 29.2%.
