NBN (National Broadband Network) is Australia’s national broadband network plan. It is a plan proposed and led by the Australian government to provide fiber-optic broadband Internet services to residents across Australia. The NBN achieved maximum wholesale download speeds of 83Gbps, boosting broadband development in Australia.

NBN Co collaborated with Nokia to test 100GB prototype technology on site and successfully demonstrated that optical fiber supports XGSPON, 25GS PON, 50G PON, 100G PON and other technologies. The demonstration, which took place at Sydney’s FTTP exchange, marks the transition of the NBN network to support multi-gigabit technology without the need for changes to existing cables.

Nokia said their solution supports a full range of PON technologies from 10G to 100G, providing operators with flexibility.

NBN’s chief network officer said the results showed that their ever-upgrading network is only limited by the capabilities of future devices, and that the network needs of Australian households will continue to grow in the future.
