iPhone 17 is the first time a new model is developed outside China

Apple’s iPhone assembly in India is expected to receive a significant boost, further strengthening thecountry’s manufacturing sector. Renowned Apple analyst, Ming-Chi Kuo, has revealed that Apple may commence development of a new iPhone model outside of China for the first time with the launch of the iPhone 17 in 2025, a TOI report stated.

Kuo stated, “The new product introduction for the standard iPhone 17 is expected to kick-off in India in the second half of 2024.” This move is aimed at reducing design risks, with the standard iPhone model chosen for its lower-difficulty design development.

In addition to this development, Tata Group recently acquired Wistron’s iPhone assembly plant in India for $125 million, as part of Apple’s strategy to diversify its supply chain away from China. Kuo predicts that the proportion of iPhones manufactured in India will increase to 20-25% by 2024. Apple’s production has faced disruptions due to the COVID-19 pandemic, prompting the company to reduce its dependence on China. Apple has also faced scrutiny over its supply chain and is actively seeking to expand its manufacturing base.
