Japanese companies pledge to increase investment in Malaysia

Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar stated that foreign direct investment from Japan is expected to exceed RM30 billion in 2023, showing Japanese investors’ firm confidence in Malaysia. He stressed that Trade and Industry Minister Tengku Zafrul Abdullah had informed him that new investments from Japan would enter Malaysia this year. He also noted that existing Japanese companies investing in Malaysia have committed to expanding their investments in the country, which is impressive.

Anwar and Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida emphasized at a joint press conference that both Malaysia and Japan are committed to reducing carbon emissions. As members of the Asian Zero Emissions Community, both parties will increase their efforts to reduce emissions and achieve a higher goal of zero greenhouse gas emissions. . Anwar also said that Malaysia has been exporting liquefied natural gas to Japan through Petronas, which is an important aspect of cooperation between the two parties. LNG will account for the majority of Malaysia’s exports to Japan in 2022, reaching 31%.
