MCMC closes 4013 fraudulent accounts and 1764 websites

Zhang Nianqun, Deputy Minister of Communications and Digital of Malaysia, said that the Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) has successfully closed 4,013 accounts and 1,764 websites containing fraudulent elements.

She pointed out that most of these websites are registered abroad and therefore require domestic and international cooperation to shut down. In addition, MCMC intercepted more than 4.1 billion unauthorized text messages over a period of time, and intercepted 19 million text messages with links between May 2 and 9.

Zhang Nianqun also revealed that as of the first nine months of this year, a total of 79,322 phone lines have been canceled, suspicious text messages have been stopped, and more than 5.5 billion suspicious phone calls have been intercepted.

She called for greater social vigilance against online fraud and emphasized the importance of cooperation in combating such criminal activities. The public is also encouraged to raise awareness about fraud to avoid becoming a victim.
