Globe Telecom launches electric scooters with unique battery swapping technology, expanding its non-telecom business into the transportation sector.

Gogoro Philippines, a joint venture of Ayala Corp and Globe 917Ventures, on Tuesday opened an “experience center” at the Greenbelt 4 mall in Manila. Gogoro provides Taiwan-developed technology and systems that allow users to replace batteries at designated stations (GoStations) to avoid long charging times. In shopping malls, consumers can try out the scooters at GoStation and watch quick battery replacements.

Bernie Llamzon, President of Gogoro Philippines, said that the opening of the first Gogoro Experience Center will open a new chapter for mobile travel in the Philippines. Globe said earlier that as the telecommunications industry matures, the company hopes to achieve growth through non-telecom business units. Globe President and CEO Ernest Cu expects Gogoro to lead the Philippines into the era of electric vehicles. In addition to quick battery replacement, Gogoro scooters also support smartphone connection and keyless unlocking, providing additional security.

Gogoro will announce the pricing and availability of some Smartscooter models on December 1, and other models will be available in early 2024.
