Malaysia’s domestic electric boat industry has huge potential

Transport Minister Loke Siew Fook said Malaysia is promoting electric boat manufacturing to achieve its 2050 zero-carbon emission target.

He pointed out that local innovation and expertise have attracted investment from foreign companies, promoting the development of the local electric transportation sector, including electric vehicles and electric boats. He believes that the electric boat industry has huge potential in Malaysia through the use of sustainable materials and local expertise. The promotion of electric boats will help Malaysia achieve its 2050 zero-carbon emission goal and can be used for ferry services on holiday islands in the future.

He emphasized that the popularization of electric boats will provide ferry operators with options to provide more environmentally friendly maritime transportation services.
