Taiwan’s Xinyi Group and Britain’s InterContinental Hotels Group have launched a RM1 billion five-star resort construction project in Papal Merlin, Sabah, which will promote the development of Sabah’s hotel and service industry.

The strategic investment is supported by Chief Minister Datuk Seri Haji Ji Noor and is expected to create more than 500 jobs and boost tourism growth. Hajiji said the resort was well-situated and would benefit from surrounding infrastructure projects. This move is in line with Sabah’s development plan, which aims to receive 2.2 million tourists in 2023.

He encouraged investors to look for business opportunities in areas such as tourism and blue economy, demonstrating Sabah’s support for sustainable development in multiple fields.
