Penang is expected to remain Malaysia’s largest exporter in 2023, accounting for 30% of the country’s exports. The chairman of the Malaysian External Trade Development Corporation (Matrade) said he was optimistic about Penang’s performance despite a slight decline of 3.1% in the value of its exports to RM281.03 billion.

He pointed out that 25 per cent of Penang’s export value last year was contributed by the top 50 exporters, including 10 multinational companies, which accounted for 10 per cent of total exports.

A total of 327 companies in Penang have received assistance from Matrade under the Matrade Export Development Programme

The agency expressed its gratitude to the state government for its partnership with Matrade North District, which enabled the agency to organise and participate in 99 outreach events in Penang.
