Malaysia and Thailand work together to promote the development of tourism and halal industries

The Malaysian government plans to deepen bilateral relations with Thailand, especially to promote the development of northern Malaysia and southern Thailand for mutual benefit.

Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim said the working visit included promoting cooperation in the tourism and halal industries. The leaders of the two countries have instructed the tourism ministers to convene a meeting to discuss options to increase the volume of two-way tourism. The two sides are also considering strengthening cooperation in the halal industry, leveraging Malaysia’s expertise in halal certification and Thailand’s strengths in food production.

Anwar said the two countries have also discussed ensuring safe and fast passage of the new route, although it will take time to negotiate. During the talks, the Joint Task Force covering the areas of investment, tourism, agriculture and food security and security will be the focus.

The Prime Minister stressed that the outcome of the negotiations must be compiled into a report and submitted to Thailand within two weeks to facilitate further cooperation.
