Sarawak is considering building two undersea transmission lines linking the state to the peninsula and Singapore as it advances its renewable energy plans.

Governor Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg said consultations with Singapore and the federal government were ongoing but did not provide a specific launch timetable. He noted that the cost of undersea transmission lines has been reduced through new technologies and Sarawak hopes to share excess energy.

The state has expressed interest in exporting 1 gigawatt of hydropower to Singapore, which may build a 700-kilometer undersea transmission line to connect the two places in September.

Abang Johari said Sarawak has a competitive advantage in the field of renewable energy and plans to increase hydropower production capacity through cascade dams while studying the potential of green methanol.
