Malaysian Deputy Minister of Agriculture Chen Fengxing revealed that starting from next year, durian growers can export fresh durians to China and end the export of frozen fruits. This move is closely related to the 50th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Malaysia and China.

To avoid the negative impact of durian price fluctuations on farmers, Chen Fengxing stressed the need to expand fresh durian exports. He said export agreements need to address shelf life issues and ensure fruit taste and quality. Last year durian production reached 455,458 tons, 10% of which was exported to China, Hong Kong and Singapore in frozen form.

The manufacturers association is discussing methods of exporting fresh durians with agricultural research institutions, including air and sea transport. Once the plan is established, the export process for the next durian season can be planned.
