Malaysia reports November inflation rate at 1.5%

Malaysia’s inflation rate gradually increased to 1.5% in November 2023, rising to 130.9 from 129.0 in the same period last year. Mainly affected by areas such as restaurants and hotels (4.3%), food and non-alcoholic beverages (2.6%), and health (2.3%).

Restaurant and hotel inflation slowed to 4.3%, driven mainly by restaurants and cafes (4.3%) and accommodation services (4.2%). The inflation rate of food and non-alcoholic food fell to 2.6%, mainly due to the slowdown in growth of rice, bread, etc. Health care inflation rose to 2.3%, mainly due to growth in outpatient services. The national inflation rate was stable at 0.0%, with most state inflation rates below the national level.

Compared with other countries, Malaysia’s inflation is lower than that of the Philippines, Vietnam, and South Korea, but higher than that of Thailand and China. ​
