Sabah to spend RM20 billion on green steel project

Sabah Chief Minister Hajiji Noor announced that Sabah will invest RM20 billion in the green steel project at the Sepitan Oil and Gas Industrial Park (Sogip), using renewable energy, improved waste management and sustainable solutions.

The project signed an agreement with Sabah Energy Corporation (SEC) and Esteel Sabah. SEC will supply 150 million standard cubic feet of natural gas per day to Esteel Sabah’s steel manufacturing plant to promote the development of the environmental solutions market.

Hajiji reiterated Sabah’s sustainable development goals and stressed that the project will contribute to Sabah’s economic growth and development, creating approximately 2,795 job opportunities. The project is expected to be completed in 2026.
