Perodua partners with international automotive companies to develop electric vehicle prototypes to promote affordable electric vehicle manufacturing in Malaysia.

Minister of Investment, Trade and Industry Tengku Zafrul Aziz said this is in line with the direction of the New Industrial Master Plan 2030. Although the name of the international company was not disclosed, it thanked Perodua for its assistance in promoting electric vehicle technology. Perodua President and CEO Zainal Abidin Ahmad said in November last year that the company aims to have electric and hybrid vehicles account for 20% of total sales by 2030.

The government expects Malaysia to have 1.5 million electric vehicles by 2040. The tax exemption for locally assembled electric vehicles is valid until the end of 2027, while the exemption for imported electric vehicles has been extended to the end of 2025. By the end of 2025, electric vehicles will also be exempt from road tax.
