Penang Tourism and Creative Economy Committee Chairman Huang Hanwei said that Penang’s cruise tourism industry has returned strongly. In 2023, 573,178 international tourists will arrive in Penang by cruise ship, an increase of 30.56% compared to 2022.
Huang Hanwei pointed out that Penang’s Sweden Cruise Terminal welcomed 156 international ships, a year-on-year increase of 85.71%, surpassing its pre-epidemic performance. He emphasized that the terminal expansion will increase the throughput capacity and position Penang as an ideal transit point for cruise companies, reflecting Penang’s commitment to providing a smooth and enjoyable experience.
The top ten cruise passengers arriving in Penang in 2023 show a diversity of nationalities, demonstrating Penang’s attractiveness as a cruise tourism destination. Huang Hanwei looks forward to Penang continuing to become an important destination for the global cruise tourism industry in 2024.
