Sabah Deputy Chief Minister Jeffrey announced that following a successful pilot, the Sabah Immigration Digital Registration has been extended to all plantation sectors, with plans to extend to industry.

Jeffrey noted that digital registration methods are effective but face manpower shortages. A pilot project last year registered 14,855 immigrants on state-owned plantations, using biometrics, and plans to cover industry, construction, services and shantytowns in phases.

The project was submitted to the state cabinet in the middle of last year and was approved to be extended to all departments. The Sabah government has decided to solve the long-standing immigration problem through digital registration.
