Nick Ahmad, Malaysia’s Minister of Natural Resources and Environmental Sustainability, said the government is committed to completing the Long-term Low Emissions Development Strategy (LT-LEDS) document to ensure that the net-zero carbon emissions target is achieved by 2050.

He believes that existing policy progress is not enough, and the LT-LEDS document will provide key information for assessing the achievement of national goals. Ahmed, after participating in the Youth Empowerment Expo 2024, stressed that completion of the LT-LEDS document is crucial for formulating plans and assessing the country’s progress.

He also mentioned the Energy and Power Development Plan of the Electricity Supply and Tariff Planning and Implementation Committee (JPPPET), noting that the plan will become part of the LT-LEDS document.

As for suggestions to reduce carbon emissions, such as congestion charges, he said implementation would be considered after the public transport system reaches a satisfactory level.
