Malaysia continues to lead Southeast Asia in 5G network performance.

According to Ookla’s 2023 fourth quarter report, Malaysia’s median 5G download speed reached 451.79 Mbps, surpassing Singapore, Thailand and the Philippines. The country’s 5G network achieved the highest consistency score in the world at 97.3%. Although 5G availability increased from 21.0% to 27.0%, it still lags behind its neighbors.

The government decided to adopt a dual network model to improve service quality. It is expected that after DNB achieves 80% coverage, it will transition to a dual network model in January 2024.

As of the end of 2023, 5G coverage in densely populated areas across the country has exceeded 80.2%. The government has not yet released any news on the establishment of a second 5G network.
