Federal government wants Penang to help Perda set up more halal product factories

Deputy Prime Minister Ahmad Zahid Hamidi said the federal government hopes the Penang state government will assist the Penang Regional Development Authority (Perda) in setting up more factories and sites to produce halal products in Penang.

He pointed out that Penang has the potential to develop the halal industry and said that this year Perda has allocated an additional RM32 million to support the production and export of halal products.

Ahmad Zahid also mentioned that there is a large global market demand for halal products, especially from Middle Eastern countries. He emphasized that halal products are not limited to food, but also include pharmaceuticals and cosmetics.

Ahmad Zahid called on the Penang state government to cooperate with the federal government to resolve public issues and expressed his appreciation for the Penang state government’s commitment to assisting the Perda project.
