Malaysia’s Graphjet Technology plans to build an artificial graphite production facility in Nevada to reduce U.S. dependence on Chinese electric vehicle battery components.

The plant will produce graphite from agricultural waste and can produce 10,000 tons of battery-grade graphite per year, enough to power more than 100,000 electric vehicles. Graphjet plans to invest $150 to $200 million and is expected to start production in 2026.

CEO Aiden Lee said they are discussing offtake agreements with potential customers to accelerate commercial production.
