Kuala Lumpur has risen to 73rd place in the Global Smart City Index rankings, a significant improvement from 89th place last year.

Zurich ranks first for the fifth consecutive year, with Oslo second and Canberra third. Kuala Lumpur performs well in areas such as online scheduling, ticket sales, and employment opportunities, but citizens’ top concerns are affordable housing, road congestion, and corruption/transparency.

The Smart City Observatory said there are more Asian and European cities in the top 20 this year, while North American cities have dropped down the rankings. The index helps policymakers predict future trends and highlight high-performing cities.
