Malaysia’s Tenaga Nasional Bhd (TNB) has begun a joint study with Japan’s IHI Corporation (IHI) to pioneer small-scale co-firing projects at its two thermal power plants in Lumut, Perak, and Port Dickson, Negeri Sembilan.

The utility said it is undertaking the project through its wholly-owned subsidiaries TNB Power Generation Sdn Bhd and TNB Fuel Services Sdn Bhd.

TNB said in a statement on Sunday that IHI has extensive experience in converting conventional fuels into carbon-neutral fuels, including biomass and ammonia, with customers at multiple plants in Japan, Malaysia and Indonesia.
