British High Commissioner to Malaysia Ailsa Terry hopes to strengthen cooperation with Sabah and Sarawak, focusing on modern cooperation in new technology areas.

She said that although the UK and Malaysia have good relations, the two sides need more modern cooperation, including in the climate field, diversity protection and energy transition. Especially under the Comprehensive and Progressive Agreement for Trans-Pacific Partnership (CPTPP), it will bring more trade and investment opportunities.

She also mentioned the UK’s support for sustainable palm oil and expressed a desire to work with the Malaysian and Sabah governments to promote export growth.

Terry also said that despite the UK’s travel warning for Sabah’s east coast, they still hope to strengthen tourism cooperation with Sabah. In addition, Terry also talked about the potential of cooperation between British universities and Sabah, and encouraged Sabahans to apply for Chevening Scholarships in the UK.
