The increase in Malaysia’s expat population indicates that the country has become a preferred destination for investors and international companies pursuing growth and expansion opportunities. By 2023, foreigners will contribute RM75 billion to the Malaysian economy in terms of employment, investment and consumption.

Malaysian Productivity Corporation director-general Zahid Ismail said the growth reflected the country’s strength and determination to become a major driver of regional economic growth. The influx of foreign workers is expected to bring capital, expertise and experience, spurring the creation of more than 120,000 jobs and filling skills shortages.

Malaysia offers a conducive investment environment and is ready to leverage the contributions of expatriates to continue to drive the country’s prosperity.
