The East Coast Rail Link (ECRL) project has achieved a breakthrough in three tunnels in Bentong district, with a total of 30 tunnels completed, marking significant progress in the project. Each tunnel has an average height of 12m and a width of 13m, and will be able to accommodate two standard gauge railway tracks upon completion.

The Malaysia Railways Sdn Bhd (MRL) CEO said the achievement was due to advanced technology and the team’s dedication. The project is expected to be completed in December 2026. The total progress has reached 62.40% so far and is supported by approximately 23,000 workers. Tunnel construction will reduce open deforestation and reduce impacts on wildlife.
