Malaysia plans to restart talks on a bilateral free trade agreement with South Korea, which have been stalled since 2019, South Korea’s trade minister said.

The two countries will expand the scope of the agreement to include new areas such as services, investment, digital and biotechnology. South Korea regards Malaysia as Southeast Asia’s third largest trading partner and hopes to strengthen economic ties with ASEAN through this agreement.

The two sides have agreed to engage in dialogue at the level of trade ministers to promote bilateral economic cooperation and strengthen ties in supply chains and emerging industries.
