A report from the Malaysian Department of Statistics showed that domestic tourism consumption increased by 32.5% last year, reaching RM84.9 billion, attracting 210.9 million tourists, an increase of 22.9%.
However, compared with 2019, the number of tourists and consumption dropped by 11.8% and 17.7% respectively. Domestic tourism increased by 16.1% in the fourth quarter of last year, and consumption increased by 29.5%, reaching RM23.8 billion.
Theme park revenue increased the most, reaching 49.2%, followed by accommodation revenue, with five-star hotel occupancy increasing by 2.1%.
