Transport Minister Loke Siu-fook has announced that the government will announce an electric vehicle (EV) road tax structure next month to encourage more people to use electric vehicles. He stressed that the Government understands that EV owners may be concerned about having to pay high road tax after the road tax holiday ends and has therefore urged the design of a more competitive EV road tax framework. The road tax framework will come into effect in 2025 after the tax holiday ends.

Loke also highlighted the government’s efforts, including promoting the use of electric vehicles and developing related ecosystems such as charging infrastructure. This is part of the government’s mobilization plan to promote the adoption of electric vehicles.
