Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim said the government has appointed the MIMOS Berhad National Centre for Applied Research and Development (NIRC) as the implementation agency for the National Digital Identity Card (IDN) programme with an initial funding of RM80 million.

The Ministry of Finance and the Home Office will quickly release allocations next week to move the plan forward. During his visit to MIMOS, he said that the request to accelerate the implementation of the program, the Ministry of Home Affairs has approved the grant, which can be advanced within 3 months. Anwar assured that other requirements for the approval of the digital identity card scheme will also be completed by the end of the month, which will help the government implement the subsidy and benefit scheme.

He emphasised the need to strengthen national science and technology research units to adapt to digital transformation, and pointed out that there is a shortage of highly skilled engineers in Malaysia. He asked MIMOS to provide training, collaborate with universities and research centers to prepare skilled personnel, improve the shortage of highly skilled personnel, and advance digital and artificial intelligence training.
