The Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security plans to expand the Sekinchan Smart Large-Scale Rice Field (SMART SBB) throughout Malaysia, including Sabah and Sarawak, with the aim of increasing local white rice production to meet demand. The program has already begun in Sekinchan, Selangor, focusing on good agricultural models and practices.
By boosting yields, the plan aims to boost rice farmers’ incomes while reducing reliance on imported white rice within two years and combating the effects of climate change. The plan covers multiple regions across the country, involving nearly 10,000 rice farmers, with a total area of more than 26,000 hectares.
